2014 in review and what's next for Collect

collect 2014

Over the holiday period it was a great time (drinking wine in Martinborough, boogie boarding at Waitarere, and tramping the Orongorongos) to reflect on all that we achieved at Collect in 2014.

It’s hard to believe that Collect wasn’t even in the market this time last year. Here’s some of the big stuff we did...

  • Through our partnership with Vend we launched Collect in February and by December we had over 350 smart retailers live in 28 countries.

  • Over 250,000 people had an account with at least one of these retailers.

  • As well as Vend, we completed further integrations with Kounta (POS), Shopify, MailChimp, Campaign Monitor, Swarm (iBeacons) and Mobi2Go.

  • We’ve introduced a whole bunch of new features on top of the core product, including referrals, social media integration and blacklisting.

  • We've grown the team from five to 10⅕, plus two interns, and a Virtual CMO and Virtual CFO  ex-Xero execs.

  • We’ve completed another successful funding round and successfully begun another.

Well done to us!

I’ve started this year reading a couple of new books to inspire us to new levels for 2015. One’s about Groupon and the other is called How Google Works. For us, this year will be all about scaling the business. So, these book are really relevant, especially:

  • Andrew Mason writes about Groupon’s growth between 2009 and 2010, where they grew from $30M revenue to over $500M and from 2M subscribers to 50M, which demonstrates the type of hyper growth that’s possible.

  • Larry Page talks about how; to do big things, you need to be a moonshot thinker, not think what’s impossible because of the barriers and think what’s possible, if you aspire to do it.

Those are the sorts of numbers I want for Christmas 2015 and we’ll get there through moonshot thinking...
